but what to read?

June 24, 2008 at 12:50 pm (books, harry potter) (, , )

i had spent a while figuring out what to eat, but now another problem: what to read? i love harry potter. i have read all the books numerous times, and since the last book came out almost a year ago, i have read nothing but the potters. before deathly hallows came out, i re-read 1-6, then read 7 twice. then i decided, hey, i think i will read the series as a set, and started over again. and again. and again. it is a never ending circle. in one of the books, rowling talks about books that had been enchanted and you could never stop reading it, having to do everything “one handed”. not sure if she was making a reference to her own books, but this has been the case for me! and i know it will just start up again because Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movie comes out in november. and of course i will have to read that book again. and maybe the ones before. and so the circle goes.

so please, i need suggestions for something to read! i am completely happy reading the potters, but i want a new series. it’s going to be hard to start something as wonderful as these books, but i need something!

Suggestions?

I have not been exercising like I should recently, but have not gained weight. I think my metabolism is still running high from all the excersing up until 2 weeks ago. I worked out Sat and Sun, none this week so far. It does me good to admit this, furthers my resolve and such. My eating has been on track… except for the half of a piece of chocolate chip cheesecake I ate last night. I will not beat myself up for it, though, because it would be unrealistic to think I will never eat sweets.

Last night I met some girl friends to discuss 2 books we agreed to read over this month. I rarely give myself the opportunity to read. I love to read but get caught up in my lists of to-do and never sit down to enjoy things. Despite that tendency, I am working on enjoying the little things, playing more, even reading before bed. Anyway… We read Velvet Elvis, by Rob Bell. It is a very easy read, but challenging on some points. It is a great conversation starter… brings out interesting theological discussion. We (they) also read The Shack, by William P Young. I was so intrigued by the discussion that I stayed up last night to read it. Still not finished. I think you would probably like it, too, Shanna. It is also not a difficult book to read… not to long, well written. It is considered Christian fiction but is not just a random fiction story. It is full of symbolism. At this point, I am not sure I completely buy the whole message they are trying to sell. We’ll see…

I would love for you to read these books and tell me what you think. We would have to schedule a time for discussion, cause we could be on the phone for hours, I am sure! :)
